Richmond Heights has announced that it will host a Women’s Empowerment Luncheon for the second year in a row.
A jazz reception will begin at 11 a.m. March 9 at the Highland Heights Community Center (5827 Highland Road), followed by special speakers including Rep. Shawntell Brown, University Hospital’s Dr. Lauren Griebel, news anchor and SHINE founder Danita Harris, and WKYC-Channel 3 chief meteorologist and anchor Betsy Kling.
Richmond Heights Mayor Kim Thomas said speakers will be discussing issues related to women’s empowerment.
“This luncheon will bring women from all walks of life together to inspire, empower and encourage one another,” Thomas said in a statement. “We have carefully curated a program of women who will work together to celebrate women’s strength, resilience and achievements.”
Thomas said she hopes the event will bring women together and empower the local community by connecting them with the resources they have.
Richmond Heights has been stepping up its community outreach efforts, and Thomas said in a previous interview that events like this one, as well as a health and wellness fair held earlier last month, are all meant to foster community collaboration and participation.
“The program will also include live music, networking opportunities and a delicious lunch,” she said in a statement, “and we will be honoring our first ever Woman of the Year.”
More than 150 women attended Richmond Heights High School’s first Women’s History Month event and tea last year, Thomas said. Speakers shared personal experiences in hopes that other women could relate to theirs.
This year’s event will be a little different in that the luncheon will feature the awarding of a “Woman of the Year,” who will be selected by a committee from a large number of nominees and announced during the luncheon.
Tickets for the event are $50 and can be purchased through the Richmond Heights Recreation Department at 216-383-6313.
