MUMBAI: Speaking at the ‘Nari Shakti National Conference’ in New Delhi on Wednesday, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale said All India Mahila Empowerment Party (AIMEP) leader Nowela Shaikh is a “symbol of women empowerment”. He said AIMEP is the first political party to organise such a landmark national conference to honour and empower Nari Shakti. This is a historic and visionary initiative towards women empowerment.
According to a statement from AIMEP, the ‘Nari Shakti National Conference’ was held under the theme ‘Nari Shakti: Towards Women Led Development’.
The conference was to celebrate the achievements of women and the impact of the Women’s Reservation Act (Nari Shakti Vandhan Adhiniyam 2023) passed by Parliament last year.
The conference was attended by over 350 eminent personalities from various fields including politics, academia, media, arts, sports, social work etc. The conference also launched the ‘Viksit Bharat Vision Documents’.
The conference featured a panel discussion led by Ms. Nowela Shaikh, Founder and National Chairperson, AIMEP, which revolved around the theme “From Women’s Development to Women-Led Development: A Structural Shift in India’s Development Discourse.”
While praising the AIMEP chairperson, Athawale said Nowela Shaikh is an epitome of women empowerment. “Through her vision and actions, she has organized such a landmark event and become a symbol of strength and women empowerment,” he said.
A documentary showcasing Nowela Shaikh’s contributions, struggles and achievements was also screened at the venue.
The Congress leaders who played a key role in supporting the Women’s Reservation Bill were felicitated at the grand ‘Nari Shakti National Conference’.
Shaikh commended the lawmakers for their courage and conviction and urged them to continue their efforts towards improving the status of women in society. He said the Women’s Reservation Bill was a historic step towards achieving gender equality and social justice in the country.
“The Women’s Protection Act is not just a law but a revolution for Amritkar. It is a tribute to the sacrifices and struggle of millions of women who fought for their rights and dignity,” she said.
Political analyst and sociologist Samir Khan said, “The Mahila Empowerment Party is not just a political party but a movement – a movement of women, by women and for women. A movement that seeks to transform society and the nation by empowering women and ensuring their participation in decision-making and policy-making. A movement that seeks to create a new India where women are respected, valued and celebrated.”
