PAC Announces New Initiative to Empower Women


Pak announced the launch of “Selfless Shelves,” an initiative aimed at empowering five entrepreneurial women from five villages in Lebanon by providing them with shelf space in Carrefour stores to sell their handmade, locally grown produce, called “mune,” packed in repurposed Pak glass jars.

These jars are meant to highlight each woman’s story and help support their families with the income they earn.

The products sold by the five women include macdousnas, za’atar, dried orange bitter peel, sumac and pumpkin jam, and are now available in select Carrefour branches in Lebanon.

Pack launched the initiative in the wake of Lebanon’s economic crisis, where a staggering 63 percent of women are unemployed, according to a United Nations Women’s report.

Women in Lebanese villages have resorted to selling “mune” to their local communities as a means of earning a minimal income.

Yahia Adel Z. Alsharif, category head at Alra Foods, said: “Pack’s proactive efforts towards sustainable consumer behaviour across the community aim to create positive change at socio-economic and environmental levels.”

“It’s inspiring to see Pak’s commitment to supporting and empowering local, women-led artisan businesses in Lebanon through their ongoing campaign to encourage mindful habits through reusing glass bottles.”

According to Pak, this is just the beginning: the company understands the importance of female empowerment in society and announced that the “Selfless Shelves” initiative is a pilot for more programs the brand plans to roll out in the future, continuing to make a conscious effort towards improving women’s health by offering healthier products, a range of services and inspiring recipes.
