Italian Ambassador to the United States Mariangela Zappia hosted yesterday at Villa Firenze the Washington leg of the “Changed by Women” tour, Bocconi University’s project on women’s empowerment promoted through a university publication dedicated to 99 exemplary alumni, a fundraising campaign for female students and a mentoring program.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Ambassador highlighted the quality and tireless efforts of Bocconi University to maintain the excellence of higher education that is recognized in the United States, and stated that the University’s approach inspired by the complexity is essential in the current geopolitical and economic context. Referring to the challenge of gender equality “still unmet in any country and in any sector” and the economic and political potential of women’s empowerment, the Ambassador expressed his full support for the “Changed by Women” project, stressing that “encouraging young women to take on bold challenges in any field, from finance to politics, security to STEM, is important, but providing direct examples of women who have succeeded in chasing their dreams has the incredible potential to help them break all the glass ceilings they encounter along the way”.
The event was attended by Bocconi University Rector Francesco Villali, Managing Director Riccardo Taranto, approximately 100 alumni, and representatives of the Italian business community in Washington. The rector moderated a panel discussion that featured three alumni featured in the book as role models: Chiara Scotti, Vice President and Member of the Board of Governors of the Bank of Italy; Francesca Daverio, Senior Vice President and Head of Group General Counsel at the World Bank; and Silvia Paluzzolo, Managing Director of Evidence for Impact at Save the Children.
The American leg of the project tour will begin on April 26th in San Francisco with an event between Consul General Sergio Strozzi and Alberto Achito, Director of Innovit, Italy’s innovation and culture hub, and will continue on Friday May 3rd in New York with the participation of Consul General Fabrizio Di Michele.
