Georgia wide receiver Lara Thomas arrested on domestic violence charges

Georgia wide receiver Rodarius “Lara” Thomas was arrested in Athens on Friday and charged with multiple felonies, the latest in a series of run-ins with the law by players from the football program.

According to Fox 5 in Atlanta, Thomas was charged with three counts of domestic violence and three counts of second-degree cruelty to a child.

Authorities did not immediately say why the arrests were made.

According to the Associated Press, Thomas has been suspended indefinitely by the Georgia football team.

The athletic department told the outlet: “This is an ongoing legal matter. We have no further comment at this time.”

Last year, Thomas was arrested on one felony count of false imprisonment and one misdemeanor count of domestic violence assault.

Those charges were dropped after he went through a pretrial diversion program.

Thomas had 23 catches for 383 yards and a touchdown for the Bulldogs last season.

The Georgia football program has faced a lot of legal trouble since last year, mainly involving driving violations.

The Georgia football team has faced a total of 25 arrests and charges for speeding, racing and reckless driving since team staff member and offensive lineman Devin Willock was killed in a car crash during a race.

“The incident that occurred off the field is not something we can tolerate,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said at SEC media day earlier this month. “It’s very disappointing, I think disappointing is the right word. I always talk about process and results, and I’ve talked about wins and losses and trying not to judge things based on the outcome of a win or loss. In this situation, the outcome is very disappointing.”
