Bay Area female entrepreneurs, businesswomen and community organizations will be recognized when Bay FC takes on Seattle Reign FC at PayPal Park.
SAN FRANCISCO (April 11, 2024) – Bay FC, the new women’s professional soccer team representing the Bay Area in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), will kick off their inaugural season of themed and heritage nights with Women’s Empowerment Night this Sunday, April 14th at 5pm against Seattle Reign FC at PayPal Park in San Jose.
Female Empowerment Night will be an opportunity for Bay FC to recognise incredible women-owned businesses and female-led community groups as well as hear from players about what female empowerment means to them.
“As the leader of an all-female executive team born from female co-founders and a U.S. Women’s National Team legend, Women’s Empowerment Night is special to our club,” said Bay FC CEO Brady Stewart. “Initiating a theme night or heritage night highlighting the importance of female empowerment stays true to the core of our club’s focus of developing strong leaders on and off the pitch.”
To kick off the evening, Bay FC will host a speed networking event from 4-4:30 pm featuring leaders from local girls’ and women’s advocacy organizations. Leaders from Lean In Girls, Girl Scouts of Northern California, Presentation High School, Notre Dame High School, Girls on the Run of Silicon Valley, Bay Area Women’s Sports Initiative (BAWSI), Women’s Coaching Alliance, Sandberg Goldberg Bernthal Family Foundation, and Athena Camps will participate. Bay FC board member and strategic investor Sheryl Sandberg will also be on hand to welcome the group and invite them to participate in thoughtful conversation. Honoring Inspirational People in the Bay FC Community: Prior to Sunday’s match, Bay FC fans had the opportunity to submit the names of women who inspire them. Nominees will be featured on the videoboards throughout the evening. Fan Fest Spirit Station Inspiration Sign: Early arrivals can sign up to a poster at the Spirit Station inside Fan Fest with the name of a woman who inspires them. The poster will be shared on the Bay FC videoboards and social channels throughout the evening. Rock it with DJ Bitesize: Female DJ Bitesize will entertain fans and get the crowd pumped before the Fan Fest match. Fill up with female-owned food trucks: BBQ Kalbi, Falafel Fresh, Old Greenwood BBQ, I Love Cheesesteak, Luv’s Brownies and Kabob Trolley are all owned and operated by women. Welcome Bay FC to the Pitch with a Female-Led Drumline Performance: Welcome Bay FC players to the pitch with a roaring performance by the female-led drumline, Bay FC Beats. National Anthem Performed by Local Girls High School: The San Jose-based Presentation High School choir will sing the National Anthem. Halftime Performance: Look forward to a female-led performance at halftime. Honoring Influential Bay Area Women: Throughout the game, Bay FC will feature video board graphics highlighting influential women with ties to the Bay Area in sports, business, media and more, showcasing the pioneering Bay Area women who came before us. Bay FC Players Share Who Inspired Them: Bay FC will incorporate the names of women who have inspired current players throughout the locker room and share them on Bay FC platforms. Local female artist Emma Leeper designed the “Women’s Empowerment Night” logo which will be featured during the match and on Bay FC’s social channels. The match’s PA announcer Jayme Coffee, referee Ekaterina Koroleva, producer Stephanie Aguilera, color analyst Maura Sheridan and play-by-play commentator Carmen Boquin are all female.
