“Women Rising: Women First Founders” – a two-day conference of women leaders and stakeholders was held at the American Center on March 14 and 15 to celebrate Women’s History Month. The conference brought together women leaders, stakeholders, entrepreneurs, investors, and experts from India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and the US. It aimed to share participants’ experiences on how to enhance women’s participation and leadership in the workplace. The theme of the conference was aligned with International Women’s Day 2024 “Investing in Women: Accelerating Progress”. The conference highlighted efforts to address the disproportionate impact of the pandemic on women’s economic independence and promote collective action to accelerate progress towards gender equality. Around 100 women entrepreneurs participated in networking events and exhibited their posters.
Speaking at the inauguration, US Consul General in Kolkata Melinda Pavek said, “Today’s conference on Women in the Workplace (WWW) is in line with this year’s National Women’s History Month theme, ‘Women Advocating for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion’, which celebrates women around the world who understand that a better future requires the complete elimination of prejudice and discrimination from our lives and organizations.”
The theme of the first day was “#InvestInHerBusiness,” and discussions focused on the challenges women entrepreneurs face in accessing capital and financial services, exploring strategies to overcome barriers such as unconscious bias, risk aversion and lack of awareness.
The theme of the second day was “#InvestInHerSkills,” which discussed the importance of education and skills development to strengthen women’s leadership in the workplace and expand their participation in emerging sectors such as Industry 4.0.
