Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif stressed the importance of focusing on women empowerment for progress and prosperity.
Speaking to representatives from the World Bank, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, she stressed the need to enhance women’s rights in social and family matters.
The meeting emphasized the need for effective and sustainable policy implementation.
According to the statement, an agreement was reached on cooperation to achieve population welfare goals. Resource coordination to achieve the goals of family planning programmes was also considered. Recommendations and suggestions for improving service delivery in the health and population welfare sectors were also discussed.
The delegation expressed its determination to continue cooperation with the Punjab Government in the interest of public welfare.
The Chief Minister also mentioned about setting up basic health facilities for mothers and children across the state.
She concluded that the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Population Welfare are working together to achieve the goal.
The delegation included World Bank Senior Health Expert Mano Bhattacharya, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Health Advisor Dr Sara Shahzad, UNFPA Pakistan Representative Dr Ruai Shabaneh, UNFPA State Spokesperson Tania Durrani, Programme Analyst Husna Cheema and Programme Associate Momina Asad. Also present were Senator Pervez Rashid, Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman.
Meanwhile, chairing a meeting to review the facilities available and problems faced in Punjab’s special economic zones, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said, “We want to set up industrial parks on a plug-and-play model. She said the government will solve past problems by providing maximum facilities to the industries.
The Chief Minister was upset over the failure of the authorities concerned to promote industry in the state and ordered the replacement of directors and officials of industrial parks due to poor performance.
“A performance audit of the industrial estate director and his team will be carried out,” she said.
“Industrial parks should be used for the same purposes for which they were established,” the Prime Minister stressed.
