Photo exhibition on Kazakhstan’s women’s empowerment opens in Strasbourg


ASTANA – The Council of Europe headquarters hosted a photo exhibition in Strasbourg on March 14 titled “Revealing Strength: A Visual Journey for Gender Empowerment in Kazakhstan,” Kazinform reported.

The event was organized by the Consulate General of Kazakhstan in Strasbourg, the business foundation Borashak and L’Association QazElles, a community of Kazakh women businesswomen in France, and marked an important collaboration within Europe’s oldest organization, which celebrates its 75th anniversary in May.

The exhibition featured photographs of famous steppe women as well as thematic materials on various aspects of gender empowerment in Kazakhstan, including diplomacy, science, economy and human rights protection.

Consul General of Kazakhstan Anel Bakytbekkij stressed the essential and growing role of women in modern society and said that promoting and protecting women’s rights in civil, political, economic, social and cultural matters remains the Government’s top priority.

Bakytbekkij provided a detailed account of the reforms initiated by Kazakhstan’s leadership, particularly regarding gender equality.

She highlighted measures to increase women’s representation in decision-making processes, aiming to increase women’s participation in governance by 30 percent by 2030.

Additionally, Kazakhstan promotes and engages women in the electoral process.

Mr. Baquitovecchi highlighted efforts to combat violence against women and children, and outlined ongoing legislative reforms, in particular in response to the Council of Europe’s invitation to join the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence.

Council of Europe Secretary-General Marija Pejcinovic Buric praised President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s reforms aimed at empowering women, improving the quality of life and creating equal opportunities for all.

The event also included a presentation on the activities of L’Association QazElles Community, which aims to develop and strengthen multifaceted relations between Kazakhstan and France.
