Women’s Empowerment as a Strategic Imperative for Sustainable Growth: BRICS Women Empowerment Area



NEW DELHI: There is a need to enhance women leadership in areas like education, entrepreneurship, financial literacy and leadership coaching, the women empowerment wing of the BRICS Chamber of Commerce and Industry has said.
Speakers speaking at the fourth annual summit of BRICS CCI WE held here on Friday stressed that women empowerment is not only a moral imperative but also a strategic necessity for sustainable development.
The summit, held on International Women’s Day, was attended by Rajya Sabha member Sonal Mansingh, veteran film actress Poonam Dhillon and former BRICS Sherpa Sanjay Bhattacharya.
Ruby Sinha, President, BRICS CCI WE, said the shift from women’s development to women-led development does not just mean a change in the narrative but also a determination to empower half the population.
Guest of Honor Sonal Mansingh stressed that women’s leadership is essential to building a fairer and more prosperous society.
Speaking on the occasion, Dhillon said women empowerment is not only a moral imperative but also a strategic necessity for sustainable development. The BRICS Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BRICS CCI) is the parent organisation promoting commerce and industry in BRICS and other friendly countries. The women empowerment wing BRICS CCI WE was established with a primary focus on women empowerment initiatives and policies across the region.
