Tanmeya, a leading microfinance subsidiary of Egypt’s EFG Holdings, has won two awards from Global Banking & Finance Review: “Best Financial Institution for Empowering Women in Business in Egypt 2024” and “Best Microfinance Company in Egypt 2024.”
In a press statement on Tuesday, Tanmeya said the award recognised the company’s commitment to financial inclusion and its impactful work within the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) framework. Tanmeya’s efforts are in line with the Egyptian government’s focus on promoting women’s empowerment and greater financial inclusion.
“We are honored to be named Egypt’s Best Microfinance Company for 2024 in recognition of our efforts towards women’s economic independence,” said Jinu Johnson, CEO and MD of Tanmeya. “I strongly believe in the transformative power of empowering women through access to financial resources. Women-owned businesses are drivers of innovation and resilience, but often face structural barriers in accessing capital. By offering customized lending products to support women entrepreneurs, we not only stimulate economic growth but also promote social equality.”
Tanmeyah is committed to empowering women through both its customer base (approximately 50% female entrepreneurs) and its workforce (approximately 39% female). This diversity fosters a vibrant and inclusive work environment.
Tanmeya will prioritise underserved regions such as Upper Egypt and the Delta region to enable a broader segment of society to access financial services and participate meaningfully in the economy. Its commitment to ESG principles and financial inclusion will pave the way for a more prosperous and equitable future for all Egyptians.
