Leading B2B cross-border e-commerce marketplace DHgate has partnered with women empowerment organisation The Inner Mountain Foundation to feature real business owner experiences at ASD Market Week 2024.

Spring ASD Market Week has concluded in Las Vegas, with over 1,800 vendors showcasing a wide range of high-margin products at the trade show, providing an all-in-one shopping experience.

One of the most notable exhibitors was DHgate, a leading B2B cross-border e-commerce platform that helps international retailers connect with suppliers in China and around the world. This year, DHgate partnered with The Inner Mountain Foundation, a groundbreaking initiative to support women entrepreneurs started by Diane Wang, founder, chairperson, and CEO of DHGATE Group. Diane herself is a pioneering e-commerce entrepreneur who first founded Chinese online book and video retailer Joyo.com (later acquired and rebranded as Amazon China) and then founded the DHgate e-commerce platform.

“ASD Market Week is not only a great opportunity for DHgate to showcase its e-commerce services, but also for the company and Inner Mountain Foundation to gain exposure and understanding of the experiences of MSMEs and women entrepreneurs,” said Chun Lee, co-CEO of DHGATE Group.

“We want to promote DHgate’s services to small and medium-sized businesses in the United States and work with our platform partners to achieve mutual growth. Among them, women entrepreneurs make up the majority of DHgate’s customers.”

ASD’s DHgate X Inner Mountain Party Bus Tells Inspirational Stories
Launching in Fall 2023, the Inner Mountain Foundation is committed to building a community of like-minded women from around the world with the goal of inspiring women to conquer their “inner mountains,” find the inner strength to lead, and make a difference in the world. The Foundation provides women-owned businesses with access to numerous educational resources, information, training, and funding.

For this edition of ASD, the Inner Mountain Foundation organized a party bus hosted by Natasha Walstra, a member of the Inner Mountain Foundation’s California chapter and host of the foundation’s podcast, “The Climb.” During the hour-long bus tour, Natasha and participants from diverse backgrounds shared stories of personal growth and self-discovery as they worked to empower themselves and other women.

The party bus was the first in a series of offline events aimed at encouraging female participation in local communities in the U.S. Everyone on board the party bus was excited to hear about Inner Mountain Foundation’s upcoming activities across North America this year, as well as the opportunity to engage with women entrepreneurs from China.

As party bus attendees shared their experiences, obstacles and challenges along the way, a few stood out: Erica, a beauty blogger in Las Vegas who recently started her own business; Amanda, a stand-up comedian who is also starting a social content services business; and Sherita, a single mother of three who is looking for a more stable income by branching out into e-commerce.

They revealed that they were grateful for the safe collaborative space that the Inner Mountain Foundation curated, where they could gain strength and encouragement by sharing with others, listening to their stories, and inspiring each other.

Meet real people in retail: DHgate customers share their experiences
Returning to their ASD Market Week booth at DHgate, the business team met with many old friends and new clients from around the world, including female influencers and women-owned small businesses, to share their experiences in the American retail industry.

An anecdote comes from Ah Shan and his mother, immigrants who run a family-run grocery and wholesale business in Texas. Their offline grocery store has been in business for decades, passed down from the first to second generation of their family. They say the secret to surviving for so many years is to always be on the lookout for new and cost-effective products. They expressed their gratitude to DHgate for connecting them with a wide selection of high-quality suppliers in China. Ah Shan and her mother were excited to learn about DHmogo, a new B2B cross-border e-commerce platform for home and daily necessities that provides value-added procurement services such as customized sourcing for SMEs in the US and European markets.

Mark and Tiffany, a married couple from New York, also shared their experience running a beauty business. They candidly admit that from their experience, cosmetics has not been a strong suit for Chinese suppliers in the past. However, the dramatic expansion of the beauty category in China’s supply chain is changing that, offering a wide range of beauty tools, accessories, and smart beauty devices. The emergence of high-quality beauty vendors and competitive pricing has given Mark and Tiffany an advantage over Chinese suppliers, and they are eager to use DHgate to further expand their business.

Two days of shopping and storytelling with a focus on multilingualism
DHgate was one of the most popular booths at ASD Market Week this spring. With a popular product selection and great booth design, the booth attracted a lot of attention and created a buzz among event attendees and other vendors.

The unique design of DHgate’s gift bags was unanimously praised, with many attendees specifically requesting them, with one customer even ordering 5,000 on the spot. One of this year’s hottest items, the electric skateboard luggage case, also saw many on-the-spot orders.

This year, DHgate has attracted unprecedented interest from multilingual customers, especially from Turkey and Spanish-speaking countries, with many negotiations and inquiries taking place. Some Turkish sellers said they expect US companies to collaborate with DHmogo in the future to expand US customer service to other overseas territories.

“The growing trend of multilingualism will be a key focus for our team this year,” said Chun Lee, co-CEO of DHGATE Group. “We expect AI-generated content to be a game-changing technology for multilingual business interactions, and to this end, we have developed our own Voyage AI model specifically for cross-border e-commerce.”
