Devices can be donated during the “Phone It Forward” event on August 6th from 5pm to 8pm.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — It’s an age-old question: When you replace your phone, what do you do with your old one?
Well, the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department (LMPD) has a solution that can help you.
The police department announced in a social media post that its Victim Services Unit will host an event called “Phone It Forward” on Aug. 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. during the 2024 National Night Out event.
At the event, officers will be working with the 911 Cell Phone Bank to collect old smartphones for victims of human trafficking, domestic violence and violent crimes. Other items accepted include tablets, laptops, smartwatches and iPads.
According to the 911 Cell Phone Bank’s website, the bank has helped more than 200,000 victims since 2004.
Officials said the devices will be restored to factory settings, or if that’s not possible, they will be recycled through licensed R2 recyclers.
