The debate over women’s empowerment in the LDS Church

The post quotes Annette Dennis, a leader of the Relief Society, the women’s organization of the church. “As far as I know, there is no other religious organization in the world that gives women so much power and authority,” she is quoted as saying. The post touched a nerve with many Mormon women who feel that the patriarchy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does not give them true power and authority. For Neilan McBain, a writer for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the comment was so far removed from her experience in the church that she honestly thought it was a joke. And she’s not the only one who thinks so. McBain is one of the panelists who will join us to examine Dennis’ claims and the impassioned responses to them.
