CHINO, Calif. — Body camera footage shows a suspect armed with a knife continuing to advance toward a Chino police station before a fatal officer-involved shooting occurred.

In a major incident bulletin released July 19, the Chino Police Department said it received a 911 call on June 24 from a 12-year-old girl reporting that her father appeared to be assaulting her mother.

“My dad has been getting really aggressive and this isn’t the first time!” the girl told the operator.

When the first officers arrived at the apartment complex, they saw an adult and child running from the suspect in the parking lot, and body camera footage shows the daughter telling officers her father had a knife.

According to police, officers who responded immediately positioned themselves between bystanders and the suspect and attempted to calm the situation by talking to the suspect.

The camp will help children who are unintentional victims while their parents undergo rehabilitation programs at the Hampden County Jail, the mayor said.

Dayton Police Officer Byron Branch lost a leg in the line of duty in December 2016 when his SUV lost control and crashed into his patrol car.

Because the charges against Anthony Villanueva have played out in two different legal systems, he has few recourses to rejoin the police force.

Mayor Eric Adams has long discussed the possibility of adding weapons detectors to the subway system.

While speaking with the suspect, officers observed a large knife in the suspect’s pocket. When officers asked the suspect to sit down, the suspect responded, “No, why? I’m not doing anything wrong.”

Officers gave clear and repeated instructions to the suspect not to grab the knife.

“This can’t get any worse, OK?” the officer told the suspect.

“It’s their damn fault!” the suspect told officers.

The suspect then ignored officer commands, removed a large fillet knife from his pocket and advanced toward officers, causing the officer to fire his weapon.

The suspect was struck by gunfire and officers at the scene administered medical treatment and he was transported to a hospital where he later died from his injuries.
