Gulf Shores Police arrest man on child abuse charges in Moe’s Landing


GULF SHORES, Alabama – (OBA) – On Monday, July 29, 2024 at 8:30pm, Gulf Shores Police responded to an incident in Moe’s Landing on State Route 180. Officers took suspect Nicholas Joseph Tomlin, age 23, into custody on suspicion of public intoxication and child abuse after witnesses reported Tomlin being abusive towards a child. Tomlin faces multiple charges including intentional torture, domestic violence and drug possession.

Gulf Shores Police released the following information in a press release today:

Gulf Shores Police have arrested a man following an incident in Moe’s Landing.

On Monday, July 29, 2024 at 8:30 p.m., officers were called to 18068 State Highway 180, Mo’s Landing to investigate a report of an intoxicated male being verbally and physically abusive towards children.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a man attempting to cross the highway with three small children.

After speaking with the man, he was detained for public intoxication. Witnesses at the park were interviewed and evidence was recovered indicating the man picked up one of the children by her hair and clothing and pushed her into a stroller.

Based on officers’ investigation, Nicholas Joseph Tomlin, 23, of Gulf Shores, was arrested and charged with intentional torture or abuse/abuse of a child, third-degree domestic violence, reckless endangerment (three counts), possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and public intoxication.

Nicholas Tomlin is currently being held at the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Correctional Center.

The children’s ages range from 2 to 4 years old.

The Alabama Department of Human Resources Child Protective Services is assisting in the investigation.

The Gulf Shores Police Department Criminal Investigations Division is asking anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them at 251-968-2431.
