Deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Office investigated and arrested a man charged with 10 felony counts for allegedly making multiple threats against his ex-girlfriend, including charges involving the victim’s pet.
The man was released on bail two days later, according to sheriff’s department and court records.
According to court records, police sought an arrest warrant for Miguel “Mike” Angel Miramontes, 41, of Granada Hills, on multiple charges. Miramontes and the victim had previously been in a relationship for eight months.
The two ended their eight-month relationship after multiple incidents of domestic violence, according to a victim statement in court records.
According to court records, the issues that led SCV Sheriff’s Office officers to seek the warrant began around 3:30 a.m. May 4 when the woman’s ex-boyfriend showed up at her home after an early morning phone call.
According to a detective’s incident report, the man demanded to see the victim’s dog and when the victim refused, he banged on the window and called a second time to say he knew where the victim’s car was parked.
According to a police report from the incident, the victim heard what sounded like glass breaking in the parking lot, went outside and saw both of her vehicles with shattered windshields and multiple dents, with damages totaling more than $8,500. Police noted that there were no security cameras in the apartment complex’s parking lot.
Police filed a second stalking and criminal damage to property report on June 9 after a witness leaving the victim’s Lyons Avenue residence in the early morning hours reported seeing Miramontez damaging the victim’s vehicle.
Witnesses told detectives that they confronted the suspect but the suspect “didn’t seem to care,” and witnesses reported seeing the suspect leave the parking lot, a deputy sheriff’s office said of the incident.
The witness called the Sheriff’s Office to report the incidents, as well as to express concerns about nuisance phone calls and visits the victim had received. While deputies were investigating the incidents, a witness from the second parking lot incident identified the suspect from photos on the victim’s cell phone, according to the report.
The severity of the incident worsened about eight days later, according to court records.
According to a deputy police chief’s report, the victim was attacked again by her ex-husband in the early morning hours when the suspect entered her SUV from the passenger side as the victim was parked outside her apartment.
The victim reported in court documents that Miramontes stole her keys and wallet, then during a struggle he punched her multiple times in the face before leaving the scene. The victim was treated for facial injuries by medical staff from a local fire department, according to the deputy who reported the incident.
According to the police report from the incident, around 2 a.m. on July 14, the victim reported that she was watching TV with her dog when a suspect entered her home through a rear window.
According to the victim’s statement in the deputy sheriff’s report, she became so scared she ran from the home and tried to call a neighbor for help, but the suspect caught up with her and punched and kicked her multiple times, according to the report.
According to a deputy sheriff’s report in court documents, the victim also claims the suspect used pepper spray on her and her dog to prevent them from defending themselves, then dragged her by her hair as she lay on the ground to the exit of the apartment, but a neighbor intervened and Miramontez escaped.
The victim was treated at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital for abdominal injuries and facial contusion, according to reports.
On July 17, deputies with the SCV Sheriff’s Office filed a Ramey warrant seeking Miramontes’ arrest prior to indictment based on evidence presented.
Miramontez was eventually taken into custody.
Based on the charges, police asked for Miramontes to be held on $450,000 bail and arrested him on July 23rd based on information obtained during the investigation.
He appeared in court for an initial appearance Thursday, but court records available online did not list his initial plea, and a representative for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office could not immediately confirm his plea.
He was released on bail around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department jail records available online.
He is charged with felony criminal damage to property in reports from May 4 and June 9, second-degree burglary in a June 17 report, attempted first-degree theft in a June 23 allegation, domestic violence, robbery, unlawful use of tear gas and animal cruelty in a July 14 incident, another domestic violence charge in a July 17 incident and introduction of a controlled substance into a prison on the day of his July 23 arrest.
There is no information on the initial plea, which was filed on July 25, but Miramontes is scheduled to appear in court for a retrial on Aug. 16.
